Afghanistan Declares August 19 Independence Anniversary Public Holiday

The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of the Taliban government of Afghanistan has declared Wednesday, August 19, 2026, as a nationwide public holiday to mark the 107th anniversary of the country’s independence.
As per the aforementioned announcement, Asad 28, corresponding to 5 Rabi al-Awwal 1448 AH and August 19, 2026, marks the 107th anniversary of Afghanistan’s independence, and all government offices and institutions across the country will remain closed on Wednesday in observance of the occasion.

Argentina Decrees October 12 Public Holiday Name Change

Argentina's President, Javier Milei, has signed a decree changing the name of the October 12 public holiday back to Día de la Raza, its name before former President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner renamed it Día del Respeto a la Diversidad Cultural in her November 2010 Decree 1584/10, published in the Boletín Oficial (Número 32.020, Año CXVIII).
Note that the name change has not yet been formally implemented in legislation.
