The President of the Maldives, Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, has decided to declare Sunday, May 7, 2017, as a one-off non-working public holiday in the Maldives "as a high number of government employees and the public were involved in conducting the local council elections held today".

The aforementioned declaration of Sunday, May 7, 2017, as a one-off non-working public holiday in the Maldives, is in addition to the list of 2017 public holidays in the Maldives, as announced earlier this year (2017-01-09).
