Sarawak To Vote On Automatic Overlap Public Holidays

Peru Deputies Exclude Public Holiday Reform From Delegated Powers

Late last night, after several hours of debate, Peru’s Chamber of Deputies finally approved a substitute text for the request that legislative powers be approved for delegation to the Executive Branch.
The substitute text excludes changes to the public holiday regime from the legislative powers approved for delegation to the Executive Branch.
The government had sought authority to move certain holidays falling from Tuesday to Friday to the nearest Monday, beginning in 2027.
The decision leaves existing holiday dates unchanged. The proposal could still be considered by the Senate or submitted through a separate bill, with a minority opinion recommending discussion through the ordinary legislative procedure.

The substitute text excludes changes to the public holiday regime from the legislative powers approved for delegation to the Executive Branch.
The government had sought authority to move certain holidays falling from Tuesday to Friday to the nearest Monday, beginning in 2027.
The decision leaves existing holiday dates unchanged. The proposal could still be considered by the Senate or submitted through a separate bill, with a minority opinion recommending discussion through the ordinary legislative procedure.

Philippines Declares Ten Local Public Holidays

The Philippine government has issued ten proclamations declaring local special non-working days between October 7 and October 29, 2026. The holidays apply to seven municipalities and three cities and commemorate founding anniversaries, local festivals and historical events.
The aforementioned Proclamations 1466-1475 were signed by Acting Executive Secretary Ralph Recto, by authority of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., and are meant to give residents full opportunity to participate in the respective celebrations and commemorative activities.

Taiwan’s Ministry of Labour has clarified the treatment of the National Day holiday falling on Saturday, October 10, 2026. Workers whose normal schedule runs from Monday to Friday may receive their substitute holiday on Friday, October 9, forming a three-day break from October 9 to 11.
Under Articles 37 and 39 of the Labour Standards Act, a statutory holiday coinciding with a worker’s rest day or regular weekly holiday must be replaced by a holiday on another working day. The substitute retains statutory-holiday status, including the applicable pay requirements.
The ministry stressed that substitute dates can differ according to individual work schedules. Any agreed transfer of a statutory holiday requires the individual worker’s consent and must preserve the worker’s holiday entitlement.

October 28 will consequently be a normal working day in the state offices concerned.
The government of the Brazilian State of Mato Grosso do Sul has similarly transferred its civil service closure to October 30 through a decree published on October 6, 2026. The measure covers the state executive’s direct administration, autarchies and foundations, with essential services maintained.

Dodecanese MP Manos Konsolas has submitted a parliamentary intervention to Greece’s Interior Minister proposing the establishment of local public holidays in Kalymnos and Kasos.
The proposed dates are August 29 in Kalymnos, commemorating the Battle of Gerontas, and June 7 in Kasos, commemorating the island’s destruction in 1824.
