Singapore's Ministry of Manpower (MOM) has released the official list of non-working Singapore public holidays and bank holidays in Singapore for the upcoming calendar year 2018 which, for a fourth consecutive year, does not include any error in the date of the 2018 Deepavali public holiday in Singapore.
In the past, the determination of the annual date of the Deepavali public holiday in Singapore was often problematic, with the announced date for 2009 (2009-02-10 and 2008-02-25), being revised by 1 month shortly before the actual holiday was to occur, and smaller, one-day, errors in the announced date of the 2014 and 2013 Deepavali public holidays in Singapore (2014-04-07, 2013-04-09 and 2012-04-09).
Then in 2014, the date announced for the 2015 Deepavali public holiday in Singapore (2014-04-08), was the one that we had predicted, and not the one that would be predicted using the HEB's previous method, and consequently no last-minute announcement of a date change was needed (2015-05-11), and this change of calculation method for the date of the Deepavali public holiday in Singapore, was confirmed a year later (2015-05-22 and 2015-05-12), when Singapore's Ministry of Manpower (MOM), a couple of weeks after its announcement of the of non-working public holidays in Singapore for the calendar year 2016, announced that, in a break with past announcements of public holidays in Singapore, the October 29, 2016, Deepavali date would not be subjected to change ("The Hindu Endowments Board and Hindu Advisory Board have reviewed this process and a clear set of parameters has been defined to establish the date for Deepavali. Hence, using these parameters, the established date for 2016 will not be subjected to change").
