The Council of Ministers of the government of Albania has approved an amendment to the law "On Official Holidays" which amends the previously declared list of public holidays in Albania for 2018, and future years, by replacing October19, the Day of Mother Teresa’s Beatification, by September 5, the day of her Canonization, as an annual non-working public holiday in Albania.

The aforementioned replacement of October 19, the Day of Mother Teresa’s Beatification, by September 5, the day of her Canonization, as an annual non-working public holiday in Albania, thus amends the list of official 2017 public holidays in Albania, as released earlier this year (07-Jan-2017).

Fifteen years ago (13-Sep-2003), Albania's government had created a new annual national public holiday, on October 19, to mark the date of the then upcoming beatification of Mother Teresa by Pope John Paul II, after the shortest beatification process in the history of the Catholic Church.
