The Algerian Ministry of Labour (Ministère du Travail, de l'Emploi et de la Sécurité Sociale) has announced that Thusday, September 20, 2018, had been declared as the date of the "10 Moharam 1440 de l’Hégire " and a non-working public holiday in Algeria on account of annual Achoura (Ashura) non-working public holiday of Algeria.

Earlier this month (09-Sep-2018), as was done in past years (18-Sep-2017, 28-Sep-2016 and 13-Oct-2015), the same Algerian public sector ministry (Direction Générale de la Fonction Publique) had announced that Tuesday, September 11, 2018, had been declared as a non-working public holiday in Algeria on account of the upcoming Hijri 1440 Islamic New Year annual non-working public holiday of Algeria.

Nine years ago (24-Jul-2009), the Algerian government changed its weekends from Thursday/Friday to the "mixed" or "semi-universal" Friday/Saturday weekend.
