The Election Commission of Bhutan has announced that Friday, April 20, 2018, the date of Bhutan's upcoming "third National Council (NC) elections", would be declared a one-off non-working public holiday in Bhutan as per paragraph (S) of the ECB/NOTIF-01/2016/193.

As per the aforementioned announcement, Friday, April 20, 2018, will be declared a non-working public holiday in the 20 dzongkhags where the elections will be held, is in line with the 2007 Bhutan Election Bill which legislates the principle of declaring public holidays on the date of any election to Parliament or Local Government (01-Sep-2007), and which has been scrupulously observed since then (10-Aug-2016, 08-Jul-2013, 28-May-2013, 16-Apr-2013, 09-Nov-2011, 25-Dec-2010, 19-Jan-2008, 27-May-2007, and 02-May-2007).
