The Fiji Governing Cabinet has approved, through a Gazette Notice, dated from a week ago, its annual list of the dates of official non-working public holidays in Fiji for the upcoming calendar year 2019.
For the seventh consecutive year (2017-08-14, 2016-09-20, 2015-09-22, 2014-05-20, 2013-06-20 and 2012-08-01), and after years of talks on the matter (2002-01-06), the Queen's Birthday annual public holiday remains absent from the aforementioned 2019 list of official public holiday in Fiji. That reduction in the number of Fiji's official public holidays followed the 2010 cancellation of the National Youth Day and Ratu Sukuna Day public holidays (2010-03-21 and 2010-05-24) which itself followed the 2003 cancellation of the Fiji public holiday for Prince Charles' Birthday (2003-06-11).
The aforementioned non-working public holidays in Fiji for the upcoming calendar year 2019 also confirms the most recently added annual Fiji public holiday, namely Constitution Day (2015-08-27), though National Sports and Wellness Day has been excluded from the aforementioned list of 2019 public holidays in Fiji.
