Germany Opts for March 8 Berlin New Public Holiday

The Governing "Die Linke/Die Grünen" coalition of Germany's city-state of Berlin, seems to finally have agreed on March 8 as a new annual non-working public holiday in Germany's city-state of Berlin.

Though there is agreement in principle, the Greens are talking their sweet time ("We will take our time until the end of the year for the participatory clarification process we are aiming for") and holding up the bill in the Senate.

For the new, March 8, annual public holiday in Berlin to take effect in 2019, the state's Law On Sundays And Holidays would need to be passed and gazetted by January 24, 2019, meaning it has to be tabled no later than the end of the last plenary session before the Christmas break, on 13 December, 2018.

Earlier this summer (16-Jul-2018), the Governing Mayor of Germany's city-state of Berlin, Michael Müller, stated his preference for March 18, not March 8, for the new annual public holiday to be declared in Germany's city-state of Berlin.
