Romanian Good Friday Public Holiday Update

Ealier today, Romanian President, Klaus Iohannis, promulgated a law to add a new annual non-working public holiday in Romania, as well as bank holiday in Romania, on Good Friday (Vinerea Mare).

Today's promulgation follows last month's vote in Romania's Senate (2018-02-25), and in the Romanian Lower House of Parliament (2018-02-28), of the bill introduced last year (2017-12-11) by a coalition of UDMR, PSD, PNL and PMP parliamentarians to add a new annual non-working public holiday in Romania, as well as bank holiday in Romania, on Good Friday (Vinerea Mare).

The Romanian Labour Code was last modified to include a new annual non-working public holiday in Romania on June 1st, to mark International Children's Day (2016-11-17, 2016-10-18, 2016-09-15, 2016-06-13 and 2016-04-08), and a new annual non-working public holiday in Romania on January 24, to commemorate the reunification of Wallachia and Moldavia (2016-10-07 and 2016-09-06).

Good Friday was recently declared a new annual non-working public holiday in the Czech Republic (2016-01-07, 2015-12-03, 2015-10-24, 2010-04-08, 2007-02-07 and 2006-11-03) and in Hungary (2017-03-07, 2017-01-08 and 2016-11-20).
