Romania's Senate has approved, with 86 votes in favour, one against, and one abstention, the bill introduced last year by a coalition of UDMR, PSD, PNL and PMP parliamentarians which would add a new annual non-working public holiday in Romania, as well as bank holiday in Romania, on Good Friday (Vinerea Mare).

The aforementioned bill to add a new annual non-working public holiday in Romania on Good Friday (Vinerea Mare), introduced last year (2017-12-11), and approved Wednesday by Romania's Senate, must still be approved by the lower house and then signed into law by the President of Romania, before it becomes law.

The Romanian Labour Code was last modified to include a new annual non-working public holiday in Romania on June 1st, to mark International Children's Day (2016-11-17, 2016-10-18, 2016-09-15, 2016-06-13 and 2016-04-08), and a new annual non-working public holiday in Romania on January 24, to commemorate the reunification of Wallachia and Moldavia (2016-10-07 and 2016-09-06).

In related news, Good Friday was recently declared a new annual non-working public holiday in the Czech Republic (2016-01-07, 2015-12-03, 2015-10-24, 2010-04-08, 2007-02-07 and 2006-11-03) and in Hungary (2017-03-07, 2017-01-08 and 2016-11-20).
