The Sri Lankan Government has issued an Extraordinary Gazette Notification (No. 2066/17) moving the previously-declared, May 1st, public holiday of Sri Lanka, to Monday, May 7, 2018.
The aforementioned gazette notification ("the Public and Bank Holiday fallen on Tuesday, the 1st of May 2018 for International Labour Day is cancelled due to the Vesak Week scheduled from 26th April 2018 to 02nd May 2018 and Monday, 07th of May shall be a Public and Bank Holiday to celebrate International Labour Day"), signed by Sri Lanka's Minister of Home Affairs, Vajira Abeywardana, confirms and clarifies the announcement made last month (2018-03-27), by Sri Lankan President, Maithripala Sirisena, that the Sri Lankan Government would declare Monday, May 7, 2018, as a non-working public holiday in Sri Lanka "taking into the consideration of the Vesak week, which coincides with the International Workers’ Day".
The aforementioned declaration of Monday, May 7, 2018, as a non-working public holiday in Sri Lanka thus amends the official list of Sri Lankan public holidays for the calendar year 2018, as announced last summer (2017-07-24).
