The UAE cabinet has announced that the upcoming Mawlid Al Nabi, (birthday of the Prophet Muhammad) non-working public holiday in the UAE would be moved from November 20 to Sunday, November 18, to adjoin the preceding weekend.
In the past (2017-11-23, 2015-12-13, 2014-01-05 and 2011-02-07), the UAE had often moved the date of the UAE's Prophet's Birthday public holiday around to adjoin a nearby weekend, but not when it fell on the UAE weekend (2017-09-19, 2016-09-26 and 2014-10-20), as per paragraph 6 of Article 100 of the bylaws “A public holiday shall not be subject to postponement or compensation should it occur at the same time as another public holiday or on a weekend.”. The Cabinet decree No.21/2006 (2006-05-31) changed the weekend days in the UAE to Fridays and Saturdays instead, as of Friday September 1st, 2006.
