The UAE cabinet has announced that the upcoming Mawlid Al Nabi, (birthday of the Prophet Muhammad) non-working public holiday in the UAE would be moved from November 20 to Sunday, November 18, to adjoin the preceding weekend.
In the past (23-Nov-2017, 13-Dec-2015, 05-Jan-2014 and 07-Feb-2011), the UAE had often moved the date of the UAE's Prophet's Birthday public holiday around to adjoin a nearby weekend, but not when it fell on the UAE weekend (19-Sep-2017, 26-Sep-2016 and 20-Oct-2014), as per paragraph 6 of Article 100 of the bylaws “A public holiday shall not be subject to postponement or compensation should it occur at the same time as another public holiday or on a weekend.”. The Cabinet decree No.21/2006 (31-May-2006) changed the weekend days in the UAE to Fridays and Saturdays instead, as of Friday September 1st, 2006.
