Costa Rica Clarifies August 31 Public Holiday

Costa Rica's Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS) has issued a communique clarifying the status of the relatively new August 31 public holiday which will be observed on a weekday for the first time in 2026.
As per the Ministry's statement, August 31st is a non-mandatory paid holiday.

State Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Committee chairman Mohd Najwan Halimi has stated that the proposal would be submitted to Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari for consideration once the final medal tally is confirmed, with Selangor currently well placed to take the overall title.
Note that August 24 itself remains a normal working day in Selangor, and Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari has denied a viral poster claiming that the day had already been declared a public holiday.

Malaysia's Cabinet's and the Constitution and Government Relations Department of the Prime Minister's Office have jointly issued the annual official Federal Public Holidays Schedule 2027 (Jadual Hari Kelepasan Am Persekutuan 2027) and State Public Holiday Schedule 2027 (Jadual Hari Kelepasan Am Negeri 2027) containing the list of official national non-working public holidays in Malaysia for the calendar year 2027 as well as the state-specific regional non-working public holidays in Malaysia for the calendar year 2027.
