In the run-up to tomorrow's one-off public holiday, in the British Virgin Islands, in honour of former Premier Ralph T O’Neal, there have been calls for a new annual public holiday to be declared in the British Virgin Islands after him.

Late last month (2019-11-29), the British Virgin Islands government had declared Wednesday, December 11, 2019, as a public holiday in the Virgin Islands in observance of the State Funeral and burial for the late Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal, OBE Member Emeritus.

In parliament, BVI Deputy Premier, and Ninth District Representative, Vincent Wheatley, said he would be advocating for a permanent Ralph T O’Neal public holiday.

That one-off public holiday in the British Virgin Islands, on December 11, 2019, will be in addition to last years's release of the annual list of, and dates of, official non-working public holidays for 2019 in the British Virgin Islands, as announced by the cabinet of the British Virgin Islands, in accordance with Section 5 of the Public Holidays Act (2018-10-19, 2017-11-07, 2016-10-13, 2015-10-05, 2014-09-15, 2013-10-11, 2012-10-20 and 2011-09-23).
