The government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo has passed a bill that would institutionalize the date of January 24, to commemorate the peaceful passation of power on January 24, 2019.
The government is reported to be giving serious thought to declaring January 24 a new annual public holiday in the DRC. But, the month of January is already busy with other Congolese public holidays, on January 1, 4, 16 and 17, which is giving the government cause to pause.
We will probably find out, early next month, when the list of 2020 public holidays in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is released as usual (2019-01-03).
