The Kuwaiti cabinet has announced that the upcoming Kuwaiti non-working public holiday for the Islamic New Year AH 1441, would be observed on Saturday, August 31, 2019, a date that would not be changed, as it had on previous occasions ("the Cabinet also issued another decision to declare that the holiday for the Islamic New Year will be given on the same day, and will not be delayed to another day").
The aforementioned cabinet statement went on to announce that, henceforth, "if any public holidays and occasions fall on a Saturday, it will be considered as a public holiday, and will not be compensated by another day".
Recall that, at the beginning of this year (2019-01-01), we had reported how Kuwait was considering extending the public holidays entitlement of private sector employees to also include the official holidays adopted by the Civil Service Commission, usually on the occasion of the 2 Eid holidays to link those with a neighboring weekend, in line with the preceding Private Sector Labor Law amendments (2017-07-16) to the labour law gazetted 9 years ago (2010-02-22, 2009-12-25, 2009-02-18 and 2009-02-03), the "State of Kuwait New Private Sector Labour Law No.6 Of 2010", which had, at the time, increased the number of public holidays for the private sector from eight to thirteen.
