The President of Latvia, Egils Levits, has asked the Saeima (Latvia's parliament) to legislate the declaration of March 17 as National Resistance Movement Day and October 15 as the Official Language Day.

The aforementioned proposed amendments to the Law on Public Holidays, Remembrance Days and National Holidays were sent to the Saeima Human Rights and Public Affairs Committee, according to a release by the President's Chancery, but would not change the previously-announced list of 2020 public holidays in Latvia, as announced earlier this year (2019-05-10).
