Nicaragua 2019-2020 Year-End Public Holidays

Nicaragua's Minister of Labour, Alba Luz Torres, has announced that her ministry (MITRAB - Ministerio del Trabajo) had declared extended public sector non-working public holidays in Nicaragua centered around the Nicaraguan public holidays for Christmas 2019 and New Year's Day 2020.

As per the aforementioned announcement, MITRAB has declared public sector holidays in Nicaragua, centered around the Nicaraguan public holidays for Christmas 2019 and New Year's Day 2020, to run from Saturday, December 21, 2019, until Sunday, January 5, 2020, inclusively ("La doctora Alba Luz (Torres Briones) nos ha hecho llegar la propuesta que el comandante ha aprobado para que el viernes 20 de diciembre, sea el último día de trabajo en el Estado y que regresamos a nuestras labores el día seis, lunes seis").

This announcement, based on Article 76 of Nicaragua's Labor Code, has become expected annually (2017-12-21, 2016-12-15, 2015-12-12, 2014-12-10, 2012-12-13, 2011-12-17, 2010-12-04, 2009-12-07, 2008-12-05, 2007-12-03, 2006-12-14, 2004-12-01, and 2001-12-05), although the original legislation only extends the public sector holidays in Nicaragua, centered around the Nicaraguan annual public holidays, from December 24, until January 1st.
