The Chief Minister of the Government of India's state of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal, has declared a non-working government public holiday in India's state of Assam on Monday, November 16, 2020, on the occasion of Bhai Dooj, the festival celebrating the bond between brothers and sisters, also known as Bhai Phonta by Bengalis and as Bhai Tika by Gorkhas.

The aforementioned announcement that the Government of India's state of Assam had declared a government public holiday in India's state of Assam on Monday, November 16, 2020, on the occasion of Bhai Dooj, is in addition to the list of Assam 2020 public holidays listed late last year (Government Notification No.GAG(A).81/2016/494), which only listed Bhai Dooj as a restricted holiday (2019-12-01).

A similar, last-minute change occurred a few years ago, when the same Chief Minister of the Government of India's state of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal, declared Monday, October 17, 2016, on the occasion of Kati Bihu, as a public holiday, amending the list of 2015 public holidays in Assam, which had listed the 2015 Kati Bihu as a restricted holiday (2016-10-15).
