The Ministry of Public Administration of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh has gazetted the previously-announced list of 2021 public holidays in Bangladesh as per the Memo no. 05.00.0000.173.08.003.18-280 ("Government hereby declares that, in 2021 all the holidays stated below must be observed by all the governmental and non-governmental and autonomous and non-autonomous organizations in Bangladesh").
The aforementioned list of 2021 public holidays in Bangladesh had been announced, earlier this week (2020-11-02), when Cabinet Secretary, Khandker Anwarul Islam, announced that, at a cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the list of 2021 public holidays in Bangladesh had been approved ("In 2021, there will be 14 general holidays and six of them coincided with public holidays").
As usual (2019-10-29, 2018-10-30, 2017-11-06, 2016-11-25, 2015-10-02 and 2015-11-02), the list of Bangladesh 2021 public holidays, is broken down into 7 sections, namely: General Holidays, Government Holidays on Executive Orders, Optional Holidays (Muslims festival), Optional Holidays (Hindu festival), Optional Holiday (Christian festival), Optional Holidays (Buddhist festival), and Optional Holidays (For Employees of the minor tribal people working in Chittagong Hill Tracts and other areas).
The Memo no. 05.00.0000.173.08.003.18-280, signed by order of the President by Kazi Mohammad Saiful Islam, goes on to state that "An Employee can be granted not more than 3 (three) Optional Holidays depending on his/her religion and every employee must gain the approval of the proper authority to enjoy the 3 (three) Optional Holidays depending on his/her religion at the start of the year. The approval of Holidays can be granted by merging them with the General Holidays, Government Holidays on Executive Orders and Weekly Holidays.".
The gazetted list of the annual list of official non-working public holidays in Bangladesh for the upcoming calendar year usually follows an initial announcement (2019-11-25, 2016-12-03, 2014-11-03, 2013-11-15, 2012-11-30,...), and is often made at about the same time as Bangladesh's Central Bank releases its annual list of official bank holidays in Bangladesh for the upcoming calendar year (2019-11-17).
