Bhutanese 2021-2022 Public Holidays Announced

The Royal Civil Service Commission of the Government of Bhutan has released its annual official list of national and regional non-working public holidays in Bhutan for the Year of the Female Iron Ox, running from the Losar Lunar New Year public holiday of Bhutan in 2021, until that same the Losar public holiday of 2022, signed by the Secretary to the Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs, Kado Zangpo.

The announced list of 2021-2022 public holidays in Bhutan, covering the year of the female iron ox, confirms, again (2019-11-06, 2018-10-15, 2017-11-05, 2016-10-28, 2015-10-01, 2014-10-24, 2013-11-15, 2012-10-12, 2012-01-04, 2010-11-05 and 2010-01-13), the re-instatement of the Thrue Bab (Blessed Rainy Day) national public holiday (2009-09-16) that had been canceled a decade ago (2007-01-03), and specifies that "Tshechu holidays for respective Dzongkhags will be confirmed by respective Dzongkhag Administration.".

The aforementioned list of 2021-2022 public holidays in Bhutan also re-confirms the move of the March 20 Gross National Happiness non-working public holiday throughout Bhutan in observance of the United Nations' International Day of Happiness, from it original date of March 20, although it does not mention it on November 11, the date of the Anniversary of the 4th Druk Gyalpo (2014-01-30, 2013-03-15 and 2012-07-06), to which it was to be adjoined.

Finally, to justify the listed date of Friday, October 15, 2021, for the Dassain public holiday of Bhutan, the list of public holidays in Bhutan contains as an annex, a letter from the Vice Chairperson of the Chhoedeylhen hog Department of Culture, Mahendra Chhetri, titled Confirmation of Dassian date for the year 2021 and which reads "This is in response to letter from your office vide letter no TA/CRO/HDSB-33/2020-2021/333 dated 10th November regarding the Dassian celebration date for the year 2021. Dassian 2021 falls on 15th October as confirmed by Pt. Tulsi Ram Gautam (Pujari of Devi Panchayan Mandir).".
