A spokesperson for Costa Rica's Ministry of Labour and Social Security (MTSS), Geovani Díaz, has announced that Monday, November 30, 2020, would not be the date of the upcoming Día de la Abolición del Ejercito public holiday of December 1st ("de acuerdo a una modificación al artículo 148, del Código de Trabajo, se cambió uno de los días feriados de pago no obligatorio, pasando el feriado del 12 de octubre, Día de las Culturas; al 1 de diciembre, como Día de la Abolición del Ejercito").

Earlier this year (2020-05-19), the President of the Costa Rica, Carlos Alvarado, finally signed into law Bill 21.137, which replaces the annual October 12 public holiday of Costa Rica, and with a new immovable annual public holiday on December 1st, to commemorate the Day of the Abolition of the Army (2019-12-02, 2018-12-08, 2017-01-18, 2016-09-19, 2014-11-28 and 2014-07-31).

This was confirmed last month (2020-10-11), when Costa Rica's Minister of Labour and Social Security (MTSS) had confirmed that Monday, October 12, 2020, would not be a public holiday.

However, the announcement goes on to mention recent amendments to paragraph 185 of Law No. 9875, the labour code of Costa Rica ("A partir de la firma de la Ley 9.875, en medio de la pandemia por COVID-19, se trasladan los feriados al lunes anterior o posterior más cercano de la celebración, con el objetivo de incentivar el turismo del país, por lo que el feriado del 1 de diciembre, se disfrutará el lunes 30 de noviembre"), whereby many of the 2020-2024 Costa Rican public holidays are moved to adjoin a nearby weekend (2020-07-18, 2020-07-02, 2020-06-17, 2020-06-02, 2020-05-07 and 2020-04-22).
