Guatemalan President, Jimmy Morales, after criticisms from the president-elect, Alejandro Giammattei, has announced that he had suspended the Government Agreement 3-2020, which grants a public sector holiday on the date of Guatemalan presidential inaugurations.

The aforementioned announcement of the cancellation of the Government Agreement 3-2020 which had declared a public sector holiday on Tuesday, January 14, 2020, thus amends the list of official public holidays in Guatemala, as announced late last autumn (2019-11-17).

Electoral public holidays are common in Guatemala where voting is on Sunday, but voters need to go back to their home villages to vote (2019-08-09, 2019-07-05, 2015-10-23, 2011-11-02, 2011-09-07 and 2007-08-24).
