Chhattisgarh Declares November 9 Govardhan Puja Government Holiday

The General Administration Department of the Indian state of Chhattisgarh has issued the vide notification GENS-2101/3340/2026-GAD-5 amending its 2026 holiday calendar by declaring Monday, November 9, 2026, a general holiday for the relevant state government offices and institutions, on the occasion of Govardhan Puja.
In last November's Government Order notification No. GENS-1001/86/2025-GAD-5, containing the 2026 public holidays in Chhattisgarh, the holiday of Govardhan Puja was listed as an optional holiday only.

Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, signed the Presidential Decree 1060/2026 , approved by Law 5029-IX, which extends martial law for 90 days from October 31, 2026, to January 29, 2027.
Consequently, the suspension of statutory public-holiday days off under Ukraine’s wartime labour legislation will continue through Christmas on December 25, 2026, and New Year’s Day on January 1, 2027.
These dates remain holidays in the Labour Code, but do not automatically constitute non-working days while the wartime provisions apply.

As per Governor Pivetta, "Public servants play a fundamental role in the functioning of the State. If we can fulfill a just request, we will fulfill it. It's a way of recognizing and valuing those who work to serve the population".

Sint Maarten’s Ministry of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Traffic and Telecommunication has announced an exemption allowing shops within the designated Philipsburg area to open from 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on November 11 and December 25, 2026, and January 1, 2027.
The exemption is meant to accommodate scheduled cruise-ship arrivals. The three dates remain official public holidays, and businesses opening under the exemption must comply with applicable labour requirements.
Businesses elsewhere remain subject to the normal closure requirements and statutory exceptions.

Establishment of holidays lists 3 methods for a public holiday to be declared; 1) National and professional holidays are established by law, 2) Holidays associated with significant dates may be established by decrees and resolutions of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and 3) Holidays associated with international dates celebrated in the Republic of Uzbekistan are established by the Cabinet of Ministers taking into account the national, historical and other values of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
