The Commissioner of the General Election Commission of Indonesia (KPU), Hasyim Ashari, has announced that Wednesday, December 9, 2020, had been declared a one-off national public holiday in Indonesia on account of the simultaneous regional elections being held on that date ("Pada hari pemungutan suara sebagaimana diamanahkan di UU dilaksanakan pada hari libur atau diliburkan, sebagaimana yang sudah-sudah dalam pilkada 2015, 2017, 2018").

Commissioner Ashari's announcement which states that "On the day of voting as mandated in the Law, it will be held on holidays or on holidays, as already in the 2015, 2017, 2018 regional elections" thus amends the list of public holidays in Indonesia for the current year, as announced in the summer of last year (2019-08-27), but amended multiple times since then due to the Covid-19 pandemic (2020-05-20, 2020-04-09, 2020-04-02, and 2020-03-09).

In Indonesia, the date of elections is often declared a public holiday (2018-06-25, 2018-06-22, 2017-04-18, 2017-02-08, 2015-11-25, 2015-07-27, 2014-10-21, 2014-07-02, 2014-04-03, 2014-01-23, 2012-09-15, 2012-06-21, 2010-05-10, 2009-07-03, 2009-03-31, 2008-07-06, 2004-03-30 and 1999-05-29).

The aforementioned declaration of Wednesday, December 9, 2020, as a one-off national public holiday in Indonesia still requires the passage of a Presidential Decree (Keppres), before becoming official.
