Kenya's Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiangi, has issued a Special Gazette Notice announcing that, pursuant to the Public Holidays Act of Kenya, the date of the upcoming annual non-working public holiday for Idd-Ul-Fitr (End of Ramadan) in Kenya would be Monday, May 25, 2020 ("It is notified for the general information of the public that the cabinet secretary for Interior and co-ordination of national government in exercise of the powers conferred in section 2(1) of the Public Holidays Act, declares that Monday, 25 th May, 2020, shall be declared a public holiday to mark Idd-ul Fitr").
This frequent discrepancy between the date of the annual non-working public holiday for the upcoming Idd-Ul-Fitr (End of Ramadan) in Kenya, and the date in other Muslim countries, is due to a specific clause of the Kenyan Public Holidays Act, which specifies a mathematical rule for the date of the End of Ramadan public holiday in Kenya (2018-06-02).
