The Maldives President’s Office Spokesperson, Ibrahim Hoodh, has announced that President Ibrahim Mohamed Salih had declared Monday, February 3, 2020, as a one-off non-working public holiday in the Maldives, on account of the opening ceremony of parliament's new term for the calendar year 2020.

During 5 years (2013-02-25, 2012-02-22, 2011-02-22, 2010-02-22 and 2009-03-02), but not one year year (2014-02-28), then again one year (2015-02-28), former Maldives' Presidents had declared one-off non-working public holidays on the date of the first sitting of the People's Majlis of the year, although that date had not been included in the list of official public holidays in the Maldives for the same year (2014-01-08, 2013-01-07, 2012-01-06, 2011-01-04, 2010-01-05, and 2009-01-06).

But, last year (2019-01-21), President Ibrahim Mohamed Salih had similarly declared Thursday, February 7, 2019, a one-off non-working public holiday in the Maldives, on account of the day of the formal inauguration of the Parliament for the year 2019.

Todays announcement of the declaration of a one-off public holiday in the Maldives, for the opening ceremony of parliament's new term for the calendar year 2020, thus amends the list of 2020 public holidays in the Maldives, as announced last month (2019-12-12).
