The federal minister for science and technology of Pakistan, Fawad Chaudhry, has announced the date for the beginning of the upcoming month of Ramazan, as Saturday, April 25, 2020, commenting that the Pakistani Ruet-e-Hilal Committee had predicted wrong dates for the months of Zilqad and Rajab, so far this year.

Recall that, a year ago (2019-05-19), minister Chaudhry, had announced, at a meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee for Science and Technology, that a new 5-year lunar calendar will soon be finalized, which would allow for a longer-term forecast of annual non-working public holidays in Pakistan (2019-12-06, 2019-01-09, 2018-01-27, 2016-12-25, 2016-02-01, 2015-01-12, 2014-01-09, 2013-04-02, 2012-01-15).

Note, however, that the first day of Ramadan is not a public holiday in Pakistan, and is only observed as a bank holiday (2017-05-26).
