The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced that Friday, January 1st, 2021, would be a bank holiday throughout Pakistan ("The State Bank of Pakistan will remain closed for public dealing on Friday, January 1, 2021, which will be observed as ‘Bank Holiday’. All banks / DFIs / MFBs shall, therefore, remain closed for public dealing on the above date").

The aforementioned announcement is in line with the list of 2021 public holidays in Pakistan, as announced in the "expected dates for public and optional holidays for the calendar year 2021" published by the Government of Pakistan, earlier this month (2020-12-10).

Contrary to last week's announcement by the State Bank of Pakistan, in the BPRD Circular Letter No. 50 of 2020 (2020-12-22), the upcoming January 1st bank holiday is limited to banks.
