The Bougainville Government of Papua New Guinea has declared tomorrow, Monday, August 31, 2020, as a public holiday in Bougainville to mark the 19th anniversary of the signing of the 2001 Peace Agreement, which paved the way for the establishment of the first autonomous government in 2005 and the independence referendum in November 2019.

The aforementioned declaration of Monday, August 31, 20200, as a one-off public holiday in the Bougainville autonomous region of Papua New Guinea, thus amends the list of official Papua New Guinea public holidays for the calendar year 2020 as contained in the "PNG National Gazette G827", issued last autumn (2019-10-11).
