The State Secretary of Malaysia's State of Sabah, Datuk Seri Panglima Safar Untong, has announced that, despite the intervening change of government in Sabah, Sabah would keep observing December 24 as a state public holiday.
A year ago (2019-12-13), the then Chief Minister of Malaysia's State of Sabah, Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, had announced that Sabah would observe December 24 as a state public holiday in the Malaysian State of Sabah, beginning in 2019, thus amending the "Jadual Hari Kelepasan Am Negeri 2019" (State Public Holiday Schedule 2019), jointly released in the summer of 2018 (2018-09-01), and the annual official Federal Public Holidays Schedule 2020 and State Public Holiday Schedule 2020 released in the summer of 2019 (2019-07-08).
This new December 24 public holiday was gazetted in the Sabah state government Gazette GN 310/2019 dated December 19, 2019, and was included in the State Public Holiday Schedule 2021 released by Malaysia's Cabinet's and the Constitution and Government Relations Department of the Prime Minister's Office, this past summer (2020-06-25).
Note that, in the 1970s, Sabah also observed 2 public holidays for Christmas, on December 25 and 26.
