The government of Timor Leste announced that it had once again decided to grant an additional day-off public sector holiday in Timor Leste, for Ash Wednesday, on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 ("A tolerance day-off is granted on February 26, 2020, throughout the day... This order covers all officials and agents of the Ministries or services under their dependency, as well as of the institutes and bodies integrated in the indirect administration of the State")

As per the aforementioned announcement ("Sei fó Toleránsia Pontu iha loron-26 fulan fevereiru tinan 2020 durante loron tomak... Despasu ida-ne’e abranje funsionáriu hotu-hotu no ajente Ministériu sira ka servisu ne’ebé dependente ba, nomós ba institutu sira no organizmu integradu iha administrasaun indireta Estadu nian"), the public holiday on Wednesday, February 26, 2020, is in line with what was done for the past 9 years (2019-03-04, 2018-02-12, 2017-02-23, 2016-02-09, 2015-02-16, 2014-03-01, 2013-02-11, 2012-02-17 and 2011-03-07), as were Holy Thursday and Easter Monday (2019-04-15, 2018-03-26, 2015-03-31, 2014-04-15, 2013-03-25, 2012-04-04 and 2011-04-11).

According to the Secretariat of State of the Council of Ministers of Timor Leste, this decision is based on law No.10/2005, which overhauled Timor Leste's public holidays (2005-08-12), though the aforementioned declaration of Wednesday, February 26, 2020, as an additional day-off public sector holiday in Timor Leste, is in addition to the recently-released (2019-12-21) list of non-working public holidays in Timor Leste for the calendar year 2020.
