Armenia Mulls New Year Public Holidays Reduction

Source: Armenian News Agency (ARMENPRESS)

The Government of Armenia has announced that it had introduced a bill to reduce the annual New Year and Armenian Christmas extended 7-day period of public holidays, and keep only January 1, 2 and 6 as annual public holidays in Armenia.

Recall that, over a decade ago, Armenian Government amendments to the "Law on Armenian Holidays and Memory Days", extended the New Year and Armenian Christmas annual public holidays to run from December 31 until January 7 (2009-12-05).

Despite recent grumbling about the excessive length of the New Year and Armenian Christmas annual public holidays (2017-12-14 and 2017-12-13), nothing has happened so far, and they were repeated in the recently-announced list of 2021 public holidays in Armenia (2021-01-11 and 2020-12-23).
