Bhutan Electoral Public Holiday April 28

The Election Commission of Bhutan has announced that Wednesday, April 28, 2021, had been declared a public holiday for three Thromdes, Thimphu, Gelephu and Phuntsholing.

The aforementioned announcement reads "This is for kind information of the general public that Wednesday. 28 April 2021 is the Poll Day for Third Thromde Elections, 2021. Therefore, the Election Commission of Bhutan declares the above day as a Public Holiday in Thimphu. Phuentshogling and Gelegphu Thromdes. All offices. shops and businesses in the three Thromdes shall remain closed".

This is in line with the 2007 Bhutan Election Bill which legislates the principle of declaring public holidays on the date of any election to Parliament or Local Government (2007-09-01), and which has been scrupulously observed since then (2018-02-17, 2016-08-10, 2013-07-08, 2013-05-28, 2013-04-16, 2011-11-09, 2010-12-25, 2008-01-19, 2007-05-27, and 2007-05-02).
