Cameroon's President, Paul Biya, has issued the decree 0434 declaring Friday, May 14, 2021, as a public holiday in the Cameroon ("le Président de la République a décrété le vendredi 14 mai 2021, jour férié et chômé sur l’étendue du territoire").
The aforementioned announcement that Friday, May 14, 2021, would be a public holiday, follows the announcement by Cameroon's Commission Nationale du Croissant Lunaire that Thursday, May 13, 2021, would be the date of the upcoming End of Ramadan in the Cameroon.
As was done in previous years (2020-05-23 and 2019-08-09), the President of Cameroon has issued a day in lieu public holiday, thus amending the list of 2021 public holidays in the Cameroon as announced at the beginning of this year (2021-01-18).
In previous years the declaration of a day in lieu End of Ramadan public holidays was due to the date of the End of Ramadan falling on a Sunday. But, in 2021, the day in lieu is due to the coincidence of the 2021 End of Ramadan with the Ascension public holiday, on Thursday, May 13, 2021.
