Egyptian Islamic New Year Public and Bank Holiday August 12

Minister of Manpower, Mohamed Saafan, has announced that the Egyptian private sector would get a public holiday on Thursday, August 12, 2021, on account of the upcoming Islamic New Year Hijri 1443.

Earlier this week, Egyptian Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly, had announced that Thursday, August 12, 2021, would be a paid public sector holiday on account of the upcoming Islamic New Year Hijri 1443 (2021-08-05), and a similar announcement by the Egyptian Minister of Manpower, Mohamed Saafan, had been expected since then.

The Islamic New Year 1443 will likely occur on Monday, August 9, 2021, tomorrow, but for the past year, the Government of Egypt has been moving fixed-date mid-week public holidays to the following Thursday (2021-04-28, 2021-04-22, 2021-01-21, 2021-01-20, 2020-10-05, 2020-10-01 and 2020-06-28).

In a separate announcement, the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) and the Egyptian stock exchange announced that Thursday, August 12, 2021, would be a bank holiday for all banks operating in the country to mark the new Islamic Hijri year 1443, while adding that "Egyptian banks and the stock exchange are to resume their work as of Sunday 15 August".
