The Irish Tanaiste, Leo Varadkar, has hinted that a new annual bank holiday, to begin in 2022, could be St Brigid's day on February 1st, or a four day weekend around St Patrick’s Day, in March.
Leo Varadkar's remarks come ahead of the upcoming Irish government's budget, stated to be revealed on October 12, 2021, and which seems destined to include the effects of a 10th annual public holiday for Ireland, beginning in 2022 (2021-09-25).
Ever since the beginning of the current pandemic, there have been many calls for a special additional public holiday to be declared in Ireland; by the Irish Minister for Tourism, Brendan Griffin (2020-05-07), then as a result of cabinet rumours (2020-10-05) albeit quickly reined in (2020-10-07).
