Jordanian Prime Minister, Bisher Al-Khasawneh, has announced that Thursday, February 18, 2021, had been declared as a one-off public holiday in Jordan "due to the harsh weather conditions".

Today's announcement specifies that "work will be suspended in ministries, official departments, institutions, public bodies, and the private sector" on Thursday, February 18, 2021, thus amending the list of religious and national non-working public holidays and bank holidays in Jordan for the calendar year 2021, as released last autumn (2020-10-30).

In a separate statement, the media spokesperson for the Jordanian Ministry of Labor, Mohammad Al-Zyoud, called on the private sector to adhere to Khasawneh's announcement and specifies that "employers cannot oblige employees to work Thursday".

Jordanian one-off public holidays declared for weather reasons were common a few years ago (2015-02-18, 2013-12-11, 2013-01-09, 2013-01-08, 2008-01-31 and 2008-01-30) and after a pause of many years, Thursday, January 17, 2019, was declared a one-off weather public holiday in Jordan (2019-01-16).
