Kenyan Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiangi, has announced that Monday, December 13, 2021, would be a public holiday in Kenya, to celebrate Jamhuri Day ("In line with the provisions of Section 2 and 4 of the Public Holidays Act (Cap 110), it is hereby confirmed that 13th December 2021 will be a public holiday, by dint of Jamhuri Day falling on Sunday 12th December 2021").
The Jamhuri Day public holiday, on December 12, also known as Independence Day, was one of the national holidays listed in the recent constitution's first drafts (2009-11-21), and was kept through the constitution's referendum (2010-07-30) and promulgation (2010-08-12).
In past years, when Jamhuri Day fell on a Sunday, it generally was moved to the next Monday (2013-12-03 and 2010-12-10).
Note that Sunday, December 12, 2021, is not a public holiday in Kenya, as the Public Holidays Act of 1984 specifies that "Where, in any year, a day in Part 1 of the Schedule falls on a Sunday, then the first succeeding day, not being a public holiday, shall be a public holiday and the first-mentioned day shall cease to be public holiday".
