The government of Kiribati has released its annual list of official non-working public holidays for the 2021 calendar year, including many amendments to the usual manner in which the dates of Kiribati public holidays dates are calculated.

The traditional week long public holidays in July, specified in the "Public Holidays (Amendment) Act 2005 (No. 14 of 2005)" (An Act To Amend The Public Holidays Ordinance) (2005-12-30), are composed of 4 distinct public holidays, and days in lieu, as usual (2020-01-19, 2019-01-11, 2018-01-09, 2017-01-15, 2016-01-04, 2015-01-17, 2014-02-08, 2013-01-07, 2011-10-28, 2010-12-19 and 2010-01-03).

Last year (2020-01-19), we had remarked that the dates of the October and early December Kiribati public holidays seemed to deviate from the precepts of the "Public Holidays (Amendment) Act 2005 (No. 14 of 2005)". And, for the list of 2021 Kiribati public holidays, the deviation extends to all the fixed-date public holidays of Kiribati, with the exception of New Year's Day and Christmas Day.
