The government of the Maldives' has announced that President Ibrahim Mohamed Salih had approved the previously-extended list of the official public holidays in the Maldives for the calendar year 2021.

The aforementioned list of official public holidays in the Maldives for the calendar year 2021 confirms the dates of the Maldives public holidays that are based on the Islamic calendar, and adds the new annual Labour Day public holiday announced a decade ago (2011-04-29), as was the case in past years (2019-12-12, 2019-01-09, 2018-01-15, 2017-01-09, 2016-01-04, 2015-01-06, ...), though the initial list of public holidays is often amended a few times a year by the declaration of one-off public holidays (2019-07-17, 2019-05-02, 2019-04-04, and 2019-01-21, this past year only).

To avoid the declaration of one-off public holidays at the last minute, President Ibrahim Mohamed Salih announced 6 additional public sector holidays to be observed in the Maldives in 2020; "the new holidays were assigned to ease civilians and extend already existing public and national holidays" (2019-12-12).

A similar extension to the list of 2021 Maldives public holidays was also announced late last month (2020-12-27), but this did not prevent the recent declaration of Thursday, February 4, 2021, as a one-off non-working public holiday in the Maldives, on account of the opening ceremony of parliament's new term for the calendar year 2021 (2021-01-05).
