Malta's Government has published its annual official list of Malta national holidays and non-working public holidays in Malta for the calendar year 2021.

As was the case for the past 7 years (2020-01-06, 2019-01-14, 2018-01-05, 2016-12-31, 2016-01-09, 2015-01-07 and 2014-01-10), the aforementioned announcement, of the official list of national holidays and non-working public holidays in Malta for the calendar year 2021, was made later than in some past years (2012-02-11, 2011-01-05 and 2010-01-07).

Note that some additional Malta 2021 bank holidays, restricted to banks and financial institutions, are usually declared later, often on a case-by-case basis (2009-12-23, 2009-04-10, and 2008-12-19), though not always (2020-01-13, 2019-01-20, 2018-01-09, 2017-02-10, 2016-01-24, 2015-02-06, 2014-03-04 and 2011-04-20), and less commonly in recent years.

None of the aforementioned list of national holidays and non-working public holidays in Malta for the calendar year 2021 is moved to a Monday. However, late last year (2020-12-21), Malta's Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion, Carmelo Abela, announced that, beginning in 2021, whenever a public holiday falls on a weekend or another public holiday, Malta workers would be entitled to a compensatory day’s leave.

Recall that during both the 2013 and 2017 general elections, which they won (2017-10-08 and 2013-03-10), Malta's Labour Party promised to restore the system of Monday holidays when a public holiday fell on a Sunday (2017-05-07, 2013-02-01, 2012-08-28, 2005-01-15 and 2016-08-29).
