Myanmar Extends Covid-19 Public Holidays Until August 22

The State Administration Council of the government of Myanmar has extended the current string of Covid-19 public holidays by declaring an additional seven-day period of public holidays, to run from Monday, August 16, until Sunday, August 22, 2021, "for further prevention, control and treatment of COVID-19 infection".

Initially (2021-07-14), the State Administration Council had issued the order No.211/2021 declaring a nine-day period of consecutive public holidays, to run from Saturday, July 17, until Sunday, July 25, 2021, "for the prevention, control and treatment of COVID-19".

This initial period of public holidays was extended by an additional seven-day period of public holidays, to run from Monday, July 26, until Sunday, August 1st, 2021 (2021-07-23).

A week later the State Administration Council extended the string of Covid-19 public holidays by declaring an additional seven-day period of public holidays, to run from Monday, August 2, until Sunday, August 8, 2021 (2021-08-01).

A week later, the the State Administration Council again extended Covid-19 public holidays to run from Monday, August 9, until Sunday, August 15, 2021 (2021-08-08).

None of these 3 extensions applied to the Central Bank of Myanmar, government banks under its operation, and private banks. But, this latest extension will apply to banks ("the Central Bank of Myanmar and its subordinate government banks and private banks will be closed from Aug. 16 to 20").

The initial list of 2021 bank holidays and public holidays was released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the government of Myanmar last summer (2020-07-31).
