A spokesperson of the Government of Nepal, Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, has announced that the Cabinet of the Government of Nepal had decided to declare a public holiday on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, on the occasion of Eid-al-Adha (Bakra Eid).

Muslim public holidays were added to the official list of Nepalese public holidays for 2008 (2008-10-01), after years of protests by the Muslim minority in Nepal (2007-06-30), and maintained since (2019-05-30, 2018-06-14, 2017-11-30, 2017-08-31, 2016-09-10, 2016-07-06, 2015-09-24, 2015-07-17, 2014-07-28, 2013-08-08, 2012-08-17, 2010-09-09 and 2009-09-20), though often limited to the Muslim population, as was done in this case ("a cabinet meeting held today decided to allocate the holiday for the Muslim population celebrating the festival across various parts of Nepal").

The list of gazetted public holidays in Nepal for the Nepalese year 2078 (April 2021-April 2022), was published last spring (2021-04-02).
