The Interior Ministry of the federal government of Pakistan has announced that a meeting of the Federal Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan, a decision was made that the Pakistan public holidays for the upcoming Eid-ulAzha, would run from Tuesday, July 20, 2021, until Thursday, July 22, 2021.
The aforementioned decision, contained in the Government Notification No.0I/01/202Q-Public, and signed by the Deputy Secretary (Organization) of the Press Information Department of the Government of Pakistan, M. Naeem Saleem, reads as follows: "It is notified for general information that 20lh to 22nd (Tuesday-Thursday) July, 2021 shall be public holidays on the occasion of Holy Festival of Eid-UI-Adha".
Last year (2020-07-09), the government of Pakistan had initially restricted the public holidays for the 2020 Eid-ulAzha holiday in Pakistan, to Friday, July 31, 2020 ("No additional holidays will be given to prevent unnecessary traveling that may cause the spread of Covid-19"), but this was later extended to 3 days as well (2020-07-24).
As per Federal Minister for Information and broadcasting, Fawad Chaudhry, "while reviewing the situation of the coronavirus in the country, the National Command and Operations Center (NCOC) had suggested 5 holidays but the Cabinet only approved three holidays".
Today's announcement is somewhat in line with the list of 2021 public holidays in Pakistan, as announced, late last year (2020-12-10), albeit shifted by a day.
