A couple of days after taking office, the Governor of Puerto Rico, Pedro Pierluisi, has declared the afternoon of Tuesday, January 5, 2021, as a government public holiday in Puerto Rico on account of the upcoming Epiphany annual public holiday on Wednesday, January 6 ("a partir del mediodía será considerado día feriado debido a la festividad de los Reyes Magos que se conmemora este miércoles").
The aforementioned declaration of the afternoon of Tuesday, January 5, 2021, as a government holiday in Puerto Rico, thus amends the official list of 2021 public holidays in Puerto Rico, as released by the public sector's human resources department of the government of Puerto Rico (OATRH), in its annual "Memorando Especial 2019" of last year (2020-09-12).
The previous governor of Puerto Rico, Wanda Vázquez Garced, had recently declared the Friday after the upcoming Thanksgiving public holiday of Puerto Rico, November 27, 2020 (2020-11-24), as well as Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, as a one-off non-working public sector holidays (2020-11-24).
