The government of Sénégal has declared Thursday, August 18, 2021, as the date of the upcoming Achoura (Ashura) public holiday, following the announcement by the CONACOC that the first crescent of the Moon of Muharram had been sighted last night in Sénégal.

Note that other Senegalese Muslim communities, such as the Coordination des musulmans de Dakar, often declare the start of Muslim months on different dates (2021-07-18, 2015-09-17, 2014-09-26, 2013-10-09, 2011-08-30 and 2007-12-18), though not always (2020-07-23 and 2019-08-03).
