The Minister of the Interior of Suriname has issued a communiqué declaring Thursday, November 4, 2021, as the date of the upcoming Diwali public holiday in Suriname for the calendar year 2021.
The aforementioned declaration of Thursday, November 4, 2021, as the date of the 2021 Diwali public holiday of Suriname, reads "The Minister of the Interior hereby informs the general public that for this year the Diwali celebration will be celebrated on Thursday, November 4, 2021. It should be noted that this day is equated with Sunday", and it is in line with the annual list of expected bank holidays and non-working public holidays in Suriname dates for the calendar year 2021, released earlier this year (2021-01-22).
Diwali, also known as Deepavali, Diwali or Deevali, has been one of the Suriname annual non-working public holidays, since Suriname's then President, Desi Bouterse, announced that Friday, November 5, 2010, would be an official public holiday in Suriname (2010-10-30) on account of that year's Divali.
