The Workplace Standards Tasmania of Australia's State of Tasmania, has released its annual list of official 2023 non-working public holidays and bank holidays in Tasmania for the calendar year 2023.
The aforementioned list of 2023 public holidays in Tasmania confirms the terms of the "Clarification on Tasmanian Public Holidays" press release (2011-04-24), which re-stated the terms of the Statutory Holidays Act 2000, as amended by the Statutory Holidays Amendment Bill 2010 (2010-11-26).
Specifically, it states that "When New Year’s Day, Australia Day, Christmas Day or Boxing Day fall on a weekend the public holiday is held on the following Monday (or Tuesday in some cases)" but that "When Anzac Day falls on Saturday or Sunday, no substitute or additional holiday is observed", despite a long-drawn debate on the possibility of declaring a day in lieu public holiday in Tasmania when ANZAC Day falls on a weekend (2010-11-18, 2010-10-19, 2010-09-19, 2009-10-18 and 2009-01-15).
The announced list of public holidays in the Australian State of Tasmania also contains a listing of all the regional public holidays within Tasmania, namely: Devonport Cup, Royal Hobart Regatta, Launceston Cup, King Island Show, AGFEST, Burnie Show, Royal Launceston Show, Flinders Island Show, Royal Hobart Show, Recreation Day, and Devonport Show Day, as in past years (2020-01-12, 2019-06-21, 2017-12-09, 2016-10-23, 2016-01-01, 2015-12-01, 2013-11-07, 2013-01-07 and 2012-01-03).
The announced list of 2023 public holidays in Tasmania still includes the mention that "At the time of publishing this table, a request to change the dates of the Flinders island Show holiday was being considered by the Tasmanian Government. The dates published here would apply if no change is made".
Last autumn (2020-10-08), the Office of the Premier of Tasmania ruled-out further changes to the list of 2020 Tasmanian public holidays (2020-08-19 and 2019-09-15), all the while mentioning a possible change to the date of the Flinders Island Show, from 2021 onward, "changing the date of the Show, and the public holiday, from the Friday preceding the third Saturday in October to the third Friday in November each year".
